Davies: "I wanted it to boil down to the last lap"

Tough day for Ducati rider in The Netherlands

Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) had a disappointing day at the Acerbis Dutch Round, as he was unable to finish the race following a technical issue in race one. Drama fuelled the mornings FIM Superbike World Championship action, as the British rider had a clash with main rival Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team).

Starting in second position on the grid following the Superpole incident which saw Rea demoted three grid positions, Davies got a strong start off the line and was up into the lead in the opening laps. With the race looking set up to go down to the final lap, Davies suffered a mechanical issue on the penultimate lap which left him out of contention of the victory and the race.

“It was a good race, I felt like I got into my rhythm in the front, it was a little bit different to the set-up in free practice, I was feeling pretty good, its always difficult to be the guy leading at Assen but I was feeling pretty good, the pace was quite fast I was quite surprised, had a couple of issue which were holding me back in a couple of sections of the lap and I didn’t want to make a mistake and let it boil down to a last lap fight, but we didn’t get that far, we got cut short by a lap and that was the end of my race and zero points, so disappointing for it to end like that because it would have been a spicy last lap.”

WorldSBK action is back on track tomorrow for the final race of the weekend, with bikes on track at 13:00 LT (+2 GMT), which can all be followed live on the WorldSBK VideoPass.
