Italian heads an all-Yamaha podium in WorldSSP at the Chang International Circuit

GRT Yamaha Official WorldSSP Team's Federico Caricasulo achieved his first WorldSSP win on Sunday at the Motul Thai Round, the Italian holding his nerve in 37°C degree temperatures to mount the top step of an all-Yamaha podium.

Thai wildcard Decha Kraisart (Yamaha Thailand Racing Team) and Finland’s Niki Tuuli (Kallio Racing) joined Caricasulo on the rostrum, highlighting the strength of the new Yamaha YZF-R6.

After a dramatic 17-lap WorldSSP race which saw Caricasulo starting from seventh place and the third row of the grid, he was involved in a fight or the podium from the very first lap and took the lead on lap 11, after the race leader until that point - Jules Cluzel - retired with a technical issue.

Caricasulo did not look back from there and took the victory by 0.793s from the impressive Kraisart to atone for his DNF at Phillip Island in Round 1.

"I am so happy because I made a very good race from the first to the last lap,” stated Caricasulo. “On the final lap I made a little gap from my competitors. The conditions were very hard so I am happy to win here. It is very important now to continue all the races like this, fighting for wins, if I want to take a good place in the championship at the end.”

“All weekend, after the experience of not finishing in Australia I worked to make sure I would be able to make good lap times all race long, and in all conditions. I did it like this and we won. I want to thank Yamaha and all in my GRT team who worked well on the weekend to find a good set-up for my bike after a difficult start.”
