German circuit to welcome 2014 World Champion amongst others

More WorldSBK stars are at the Lausitzring this week for further private tests ahead of the Pirelli German Round next month.

No less than 60 WorldSBK races have been staged in Germany since 1988 and ten of those happened at the Lausitzring, located in the State of Brandenburg. However, not since 2007 has the series raced at the venue, which has spurred several teams and riders to use some of their in-season days of private testing over the last few weeks.

This week, the track will be used for a two-day test across Wednesday and Thursday.

Sylvain Guintoli’s return will be tracked closely by WorldSBK fans, as the Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team rider returns to the helm of the YZF-R1 WorldSBK machine for the first time since his injury-sustaining accident at Imola earlier this year. Prior to this, the Frenchman has ridden a YZF-R1M at the Yamaha Racing Experience event at Silverstone and several private track days on a standard Yamaha R1 at Donington Park and Mallory Park in the UK. He will be joined at the Lausitzring by team-mate Alex Lowes, fresh from a top five finish in the latest round WorldSBK round at Laguna Seca as well as his Suzuka 8 Hours win.

World Champion Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team) and the Honda WorldSBK Team will also be on-track at the Lausitzring, with Nicky Hayden having his first taste of the venue (previously, he raced at the nearby Sachsenring in MotoGP). Another rider in attendance will be Honda World Supersport Team’s PJ Jacobsen, looking to garner data ahead of his final four races of the World Supersport campaign.

Across Wednesday and Thursday, the riders of each category will each be able to enjoy a total of 5 hours and 20 minutes of track time, as the circuit will be sporadically open for each class between 8:05am and 6:55pm local time (GMT +2). Stay tuned to the WorldSBK Twitter and Facebook channels during the test for news and photos from the circuit, followed by a Thursday summary of proceedings on WorldSBK.com.
