Drama at the Start for Davies, Camier and Savadori

Lap 1 in Misano sees chaos reign for trio of Italian marques

The first lap at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli staged the first incident of a Race 1 with a high rate of attrition, as front row starter Xavi Forés began a small knock on reaction that saw Chaz Davies and Leon Camier forced into avoiding action as Aprilia’s Lorenzo Savadori was lowsided out of his home Race early. The incident left Savadori unable to restart and caused Davies and Camier to run through the gravel before a frantic fight back for the Ducati and MV Agusta riders.

Davies put on an incredible show of pace as he climbed his way back up through the field, finding himself behind Jordi Torres in P5 after only 11 laps. The Ducati rider took the Althea BMW quickly and began to close on Michael van der Mark in third, until the Dutchman was able to pull the pin again in the later stages of the race and stay out of the Welshman’s grasp.

“We had a bit of a rough start, as we were pushed off the track,” explained Davies. “But, these things happen during races, especially after a complicated Superpole session. Unfortunately, the rear started to push a lot with the qualifying tyre on, altering the behavior of the bike. Anyway, I’m really happy with our pace during the race. Climbing back through the field was definitely fun, even though it’s a shame we just missed the podium. Tomorrow is another day and, with a clean start, we’ll have another go at it.”

Camier similarly recovered well, moving the MV Agusta back inside the top ten and finally crossing the line in P8 for a good few points in return for the effort.

Savadori was left disappointed after the unfulfilled promise of being unable to get back on track again in Race 1, having won the last two STK1000 races at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. "My race was over too soon, in the second corner,” lamented Savadori, who was unhurt in the fall. “Unfortunately it went like this, but to me it all seemed very excessive - fortunately I haven't got any physical problems, although I fell into the group. It was too bad because surely we could have a good race, considering the timing of the first five. Hopefully tomorrow the weather stays the same because I'd like to finish the work started in the dry.”

Race 2 will begin at 13:00 (GMT +2) for Savadori, Davies and Camier to push once again as the grid hopes for a lower rate of attrition in the second battle of the WorldSBK weekend at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli.
