Decisive session confirms Tissot-Superpole qualifiers.

A 2.04.356s lap by Spain’s Jordi Torres saw him rise to the top after a dry but humid FP3 saw all but four riders improve.

This morning’s 45 minute FP3 at the Sepang International circuit was thankfully dry giving the WorldSBK riders the perfect opportunity to improve on yesterday’s performance.

With showers predicted later today ensuring a place in Tissot-Superpole 2 for an automatic place in the top 12 the final moments were enthralling as positions switched frequently as riders posted personal improving laps.

Leon Haslam (Aprilia Racing Team – Red Devils) and Ayrton Badovini were the first to improve on their first flying lap before further improving the next time around, The Italian BMW Motorrad Italia rider closely following his British rival before sliding out at the final hairpin with 34 minutes to go.

At the end of FP3 and on the combined classification it was Jordi Torres that led an Aprilia Racing Team 1-2-3 with Haslam and Max Biaggi (who failed to improve on yesterday) in 2nd and 3rd places behind the WorldSBK rookie.

Randy de Puniet (Voltcom Crescent Suzuki) and reigning champion Sylvain Guintoli (Pata Honda World Superbike Team) circulated together for the final four minutes pushing each other to 4th and 5th places respectively ahead of Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati SBK Team) who failed to improve on his personal best lap of yesterday.

Ayrton Badovini was 7th overall ahead of the Kawasaki Racing Team pairing of Jonathan Rea and Tom Sykes, with Niccolo Canepa grabbing the final automatic Superpole 2 place in 10th aboard his Althea Racing Ducati.

David Salom (Team Pedercini) just missed out in 11th as did reigning Supersport champion Michael van der Mark (Pata Honda World Superbike Team) who was 12th.

Matteo Baiocco (Althea Racing) was 13th ahead of Alex Lowes (Voltcom Crescent Suzuki) who lost the front end of his GSXR with 7 minutes to go while on a lap that looked like being good enough for the top 6. The British rider will have to take part in Superpole 1 after ending the combined free practices in 14th overall.

Alex Phillis was drafted in to ride the Grillini SBK Kawasaki at short notice, the young Australian finished 21st just behind Gabor Rizmayor (BMW Team Toth) who claimed the final Superpole place in 20th.
