Italian all-set for wildcard appearance at next event.

Luca Scassa will return to the eni FIM Superbike World Championship grid as he makes a wildcard appearance at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. He will race a third Ducati in Aruba.it Racing-Ducati SBK Team colours alongside Chaz Davies and Davide Giugliano, adding to the spectacle in Italy.

“It has been a long year for me,” Scassa tells WorldSBK.com ahead of the Riviera di Rimini Round. “15 months ago I broke my femur and it has been been a long, long trip to get back here and to be back in good shape; not 100%, but I have tried to recover as much as possible.

Misano is finally coming. I am really happy to have the opportunity and, for sure, I’ll try to do my best as I have always done. It will be nice to race a factory bike in a World Superbike team, which I have never done. I hope it will be the first step in a long journey.”

Although Scassa has done some testing ahead of his return to action – which will mark his first World Superbike races since Imola 2014 – running time has been limited.

“I have done four days of testing with the Ducati test team,” he continues. “We will have another test after the races, but we haven’t had so much before. I have no goals; I will just try to enjoy it as much as possible and, when you enjoy something and you have been at a high level, I think you can be fast again.”

Scassa’s return will bolster the number of Ducati’s on the grid to six. Alongside the three Aruba-sponsored bikes will be the Althea Racing machines of Matteo Baiocco and Niccolo Canepa (who replaces Nico Terol) plus Barni Racing Team’s Leandro Mercado.
