Savadori spearheads Italian domination in STK1000

The Latin country has enjoyed great success in the category so far this year, with the UK Round podium an all-Italian one for the first time since 2011.

Lorenzo Savadori’s third consecutive win of the season, at Donington Park, allowed the Nuova M2 Racing rider to extend his series lead to 30 points over fellow Italian Roberto Tamburini (MotoxRacing BMW) as the Championship reached its halfway point.

“I’m very happy for this third win in a row” Savadori told the press on Sunday at Donington. “I can’t say I did not know the track before, but my last time here was six years ago, when I was racing in the 125cc Grand Prix World Championship. Therefore this victory is the result of all the hard work put in by my team”.

In the first four rounds of the 2015 FIM Superstock 1000 Cup, Italy’s domination was loud and clear. In three of the first four races, the top two steps of the podium were locked out by the aformentioned Savadori and Tamburini, with Althea Racing’s Raffaele De Rosa coming home second to Luca at Assen.

Last Sunday at Donington Park the podium was an all-Italian one, the first time that has happened in four years. Savadori edged out Tamburini and De Rosa for the win, the same way Danilo Petrucci did with current World Superbike riders Davide Giugliano and Niccolò Canepa at Imola in 2011.

Only Czech Ondrej Jezek (Triple-M by Barni Ducati) and Scotsman Kev Coghlan have been able to break the Italian podium spell, one time each.

Despite Savadori’s dominant first half of the season, the battle between the many manufacturers involved is evenly balanced, as four manufacturers are represented in the top-6 of the riders’ standings.
