Ahead of the Jerez race meeting next month, which is likely to crown him as eni FIM Superbike World Champion of 2015, Jonathan Rea’s Castletown home on the Isle of Man has been visited by BBC Sport Northern Ireland.

“Coming into this season, I knew I could do a much better job (than in previous seasons),” Rea commented during the BBC visit. “But to have such a level of podium consistency this year has been incredible. At the start of the year I sat down with my wife and talked about race wins; we thought six to ten could put us in a championship position, but to have 12 already – and we haven’t finished the year – has been more than I could ever imagine and dream of.”

Discussing where he might place his World Superbike championship-winning trophy, if and when he achieves it, Rea laughed: “The wife has banned all bike-related things in the house! Maybe it will have to stay in my ‘man cave’ because in the house we don’t like to refer too much to bikes! “
