Former champ Biaggi recalls Misano and looks ahead to Sepang

What did Max really think about Lap 1 of his racing comeback?

6-time World Champion Max Biaggi will be WorldSBK racing once again, the Aprilia Racing Team and the Sepang International Circuit working together to bring him back to the Malaysian track for his second wildcard appearance of the year this weekend.

After two more than respectable sixth place finishes at Misano earlier in the season and a four-day test at Sepang last week, the Italian rider looks ahead to his third and fourth races of 2015.

“I am really happy to be here. Malaysia is one of the greatest tracks ever. After Misano we made the decision to come here but I forgot how hot it was, so maybe I should have picked a cooler race!” he joked.

When pressed about his expectations ahead of Sunday’s races and if whether would be disappointed to leave Sepang with no podium finish, the two-time WorldSBK title winner was a little more guarded in his reply.

“What will be will be,” continued Biaggi. “I will be happy to do better than at Misano; we saw there and at Laguna Seca that the level is high and it will be tough to fight for the podium. Don’t forget that I haven't raced for a long time and testing and racing are different.”

Biaggi concluded by reviewing the opening lap of his comeback at Misano, stating that he 'Didn’t expect the move from Sylvain (Guintoli) at Turn 4 - it was a nice welcome back!”

Whatever happens this weekend, WorldSBK fans can be sure that - as he did in Italy - Max Biaggi is not here to make up the numbers and, despite his cautious approach ahead of FP1 on Friday, he will be giving it his all come Sunday.
