The interesting numbers ahead of Round 10

WorldSBK.com provides some useful statistics and informations about the upcoming Spanish Round at Jerez.

Last year Tom Sykes was second on the grid and finished the two races in third and second place. The race 1 result was enough for him to clinch first world championship title. In the first encounter he was passed by Melandri on the second lap and ran a solitary third up to the chequered flag, finishing ahead of Guintoli, while in race two, free from championship duties, he was able to lead until the fourteenth lap until Laverty took the lead from him and went for the win.

Last year Sylvain Guintoli saw his slim championship hopes coming to an end in Jerez: he finished behind his title rivals in both races. In race one he was fourth behind Sykes, and then was third in race two, behind both Laverty and the new world champion.

Jonathan Rea will make his Superbike debut on this very track: last year he was unfit to race after injuring himself at the Nurburgring.

Loris Baz will also contest his first World Superbike weekend at this track: last year he was forced to sit out due to the back injury sustained at the Nurburgring.

Marco Melandri fought for the win in race one up to the final lap, when Laverty passed him at the last turn. His fitness condition was far from perfect, due to a swollen ankle. The pain increased after race one, meaning he had to sit out the second encounter.

Chaz Davies last year finished a lonely seventh and fifth.

Davide Giugliano last year qualified on the front row – third place. He was sixth and tenth in the two races.

On his home track Toni Elias recorded his so far best career result in Superbike as he fourth in race two, which he equalled this year at Sepang. Last year he was also fifth in race one.

Last year Eugene Laverty did his best to challenge Sykes for the title, scoring pole and winning both race. In the first encounter, he edged out Melandri, whilst in the second race he got the better of Sykes for the win. The double was not enough for him to bridge the gap to the top.

Leon Haslam had an unlucky weekend last year in Jerez. He qualified seventeenth and then he had to retire from both races because his rev limiter kept on cutting off the engine randomly.

David Salom was sixteenth on the grid and thirteenth at the flag in last year's World Supersport race.

In last year's Superstock 1000 race, Niccolò Canepa qualified in second but finished only seventh due to a technical problem experienced from the second lap.

Jeremy Guarnoni dominated last year’s STK1000 race after taking pole position, setting the fastest lap of the race and leading from lights to flag. The Frenchman crossed the finish line with a four second lead over second place Leandro Mercado.

Last year Sylvain Barrier made his World Superbike debut at Jerez. After qualifying in sixteenth place he was twelfth and thirteenth in the two races. The one-off WSBK ride was a reward for the STK1000 title win earned the round before.
Alessandro Andreozzi was fourth both on the grid and in the race last year in STK1000.

Sheridan Morais was tenth on the grid and eighth at the chequered flag in Supersport last year.

Claudio Corti was nineteenth in grid and seventeenth in the MotoGP race last year in Jerez. Two years ago he was sixth on the grid and in the race in Moto2.

Bryan Staring was sixteenth in last year's MotoGP race.
