Fernandez: "It has been a great season for me"

The 2014 EJC Champion is looking forward to 2015.

Augusto Fernandez (WIL Sport) became the 2014 Pata European Junior Cup powered by Honda winner after an intense and dramatic race in tricky conditions at Magny-Cours earlier this month. The 17 year old Spaniard only needed to finish 15th to take the one point that would guarantee him the title, given the 24 point advantage that he had over his sole title rival Javier Orellana (Europ Food SL) ahead of the final race of the year.

Fernandez rode a smart race, keeping himself out of trouble to cross the line a lonely 3rd after a multple crash ahead of him saw four riders out of contention in the final stages.

After missing out on the title last year by a fraction of a second to Jake Lewis, Fernandez managed to come back even stronger in 2014 and he is now looking forward to a well-earned STK600 rookie year with the Racedays Honda team.

“It was definitely not an easy race, the conditions were very difficult. Other riders were passing me and I was wondering what to do, whether to go with them or just keep riding at a safe pace. I decided to stay calm and just finish the race. I was third in the end and that was enough to get the title. It has been a great season with four wins, six podium finishes and no crashes. I am really, really happy and looking forward to next year.”
