Pirelli reveal Aragon tyre allocation, new development front tyre available but no SCQ

The softest tyre for the round will be in the SCX, while there’s a new front tyre that teams and riders will have already tried at Portimao

The MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship is rolling around into a scorching hot MotorLand Aragon for the 2026 Aragon Round, and Pirelli have unveiled their tyre allocations for the sixth round of the season. There will be no SCQ tyre available at the Spanish venue, instead replaced with the SCX, while there is a development front SC1 tyre to go with two standard-range options.

REAR TYRE CHOICES

Pirelli have opted not to bring the SCQ tyre to Aragon. The SCX tyre is therefore the softest available for the WorldSBK field and its use is limited to the Tissot Superpole session and the Tissot Superpole Race, as well as the practice sessions. For the full-length races, riders will be able to choose from the SC0 soft or the SC1 medium tyre. All the rear tyre choices are from Pirelli’s standard range. In the unlikely event of rain given the sweltering forecast, riders will have the intermediate and rain tyres available; both from the standard range.

DEVELOPMENT SOFT AVAILABLE AT THE FRONT

In terms of front tyre choices, Pirelli have brought the standard SC1 soft and SC2 medium tyres, but there is a third choice. The E1164 development SC1 soft made its debut at the undulating Portimao circuit and is designed to improve stability under braking and during the corner entry phase. Like for the rear tyres, should it rain, riders will be able to use the standard intermediate or standard rain tyres.

WORLD SUPERSPORT OPTIONS

In WorldSSP, the field can choose from two solutions at the front and two at the rear. All four options come from the standard range. At the front, the SC1 soft and the SC2 medium are the two options, while at the rear, it’s the SC0 soft and SC1 medium that can be used at MotorLand Aragon. If it does rain, the riders will have the standard rain tyre available at both the front and rear.

PIRELLI EXPLAIN TYRE ALLOCATION

Discussing the tyres allocation, Pirelli’s Motorcycle Racing Director, Giorgio Barbier, said: “The characteristics of the circuit and an asphalt that, following the resurfacing carried out in summer 2024, has proven particularly aggressive, make MotorLand Aragon a rather demanding event for tyres. For this WorldSBK round, we have confirmed at the rear the two solutions that starred last year and delivered very positive feedback. These are the E0126 and E0125 development specifications, now promoted respectively to the standard SCX and SC0 compounds. The SCX will be the reference tyre for Superpole and potentially also for the Superpole Race, although in 2025 most riders opted for the soft due to the low temperatures. This year, if temperatures are milder and with the track surface potentially having lost some of its abrasiveness over time, it will be interesting to assess whether the SCX could see greater use also in the short race. At the front, both solutions used last year proved competitive: Razgatlioglu and Bulega won the two long races with the SC2, while Bulega had chosen the SC1 for the Superpole Race. This year, in addition, riders will have a third option available, the E1164 specification already seen at Portimao, featuring a new structure designed to improve braking stability and corner entry, together with a compound capable of delivering greater performance consistency.”
