Dominique Aegerter will remain on the FIM Supersport World Championship grid for 2027 after inking a deal with PTR Triumph Racing. The Swiss rider struggled in his return to the Championship but ended the year with a flurry of strong performances, including a podium in the season finale at Jerez, and he’ll be on the grid next year. He’ll link up with Simon Buckmaster’s PTR Triumph squad on the Street Triple 798 RS.
Aegerter first moved into WorldSSP in 2021 and claimed the first of his two titles on the Yamaha R6 with Ten Kate Racing, claiming 10 wins and 16 podiums in total. He stayed for 2022 as he looked to defend his title, and he did so emphatically, with 17 wins from 23 races as he became a two-time Champion. In the same year, he won the MotoE World Cup.
Following his two WorldSSP titles, Aegerter moved to WorldSBK with the GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team. He secured a front row start on debut in Australia and finished the year with two rostrums – both were taken at Jerez. Unable to repeat that success in 2024 and 2025, the #77 moved back to WorldSSP for 2026.
He moved to the Kawasaki WorldSSP Team on the ZX-6R 636 machine. It was a struggle as he adapted back to World Supersport machinery but he ended the year on a high. Eighth in Race 2 at Estoril was followed up with fifth in Race 1 at Jerez, before he took his only rostrum of the year. He finished second, behind then-teammate Jeremy Alcoba, as Kawasaki finished 1-2 in WorldSSP for the first time in a decade.
For next year, he’ll ride Triumph machinery, becoming the third brand he’s raced for in WorldSBK. On his move, Aegerter said: “I’m truly relieved to have secured my future to continue in top level racing for 2027. I’m excited to announce that I’ve signed with the PTR Triumph Racing team, led by Simon Buckmaster. I’m very happy to continue racing in World Supersport with a professional team. I’ve known Simon in the paddock a long time, we were in contact a few times when he was racing with a different manufacturer. I’m looking forward to the new season and also for the first test with the Triumph bike. During the winter for sure I will give my best during the training sessions with the bike and also in the gym for my fitness level to get even better and mentally as well. I’d like to thank Triumph and Simon for their trust in me and of course a big thanks to all my supporters, fans and sponsors who help keep me racing and keep me motivated and this helps me a lot so a big thanks to everyone and see you in 2027.”
Team Manager Buckmaster added: “It’s great news for us to announce the signing of Domi Aegerter for the PTR Triumph Racing Team in 2027 as we continue as a Triumph supported team with the new Triumph Street Triple 798 RS. Also, at the start we will make a back-to-back test with our current race winning bike to make sure that when we start in Australia, we have the best possible chance with a winning package. As we know, Domi has been one of the most successful riders in World Supersport and towards the end of the season on the Kawasaki, was back on form. We look forward to continuing that, we want to work to make the final step and challenge for the World Championship. We know we’ve got the staff; we know we’ve got the team, the environment and now with Domi, the right rider so it’s up to us to work together as a great team as we always do to make it happen in 2027.”
