Somkiat Chantra (Honda HRC) ended Day 2 of testing at the Circuito de Jerez - Angel Nieto, Andalucia on top of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship. It was a rather quiet day of action with only four WorldSBK and two WorldSSP riders taking to the track, but it was still important for those present to pick up valuable data as they start working on their 2027 packages.
Running a testing ‘camo’ livery at Jerez, Honda had a new aero package on display at Jerez which appears to include some ground effect aerodynamics as they look to make a big step forward for 2027. Chantra ended Day 2 as the fastest rider for the Japanese manufacturer with a 1’38.703s as the Thai star racked up 77 laps. Chantra’s time was the fastest of the two-day test. He was followed on the timesheets by test rider Jonathan Rea, with the six-time Champion only 0.163s down on Chantra. Jake Dixon (Honda HRC) completed the Honda trio with third place after he posted a 1’39.295s. Rea completed 63 laps and Dixon 74.
Michael van der Mark was the only representative on track for BMW on Day 2, with the Dutchman working as part of the test team; Miguel Oliveira (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) had been on track with the six-time WorldSBK race winner on Thursday. Van der Mark finished Day 2 in fourth place after setting a 1’39.995s and completing 65 laps on his M 1000 RR machine.
In WorldSSP, the only two riders on track were the same as on Thursday: Newly-announced AS BLU CRU Racing Team rider Jeremy Alcoba, and Aldi Mahendra. It was the latter who finished the day on top after setting a 1’43.147s, with Alcoba around three tenths back. The duo completed 52 and 36 laps respectively.
