British rider Tom Booth-Amos (PTR Triumph Factory Racing) took his third FIM Supersport World Championship win in Race 1 at the Circuito Estoril ahead of his Australian teammate Oli Bayliss (PTR Triumph Factory Racing), who bagged his third career rostrum result in the class. Jeremy Alcoba (Kawasaki WorldSSP Team) made a late comeback to snag the final step on the podium, but Albert Arenas (AS BLU CRU Racing Team) stole the show in P4 and crowned himself 2026 WorldSSP Riders’ Champion.
ONCU AND FERNANDEZ FALL EARLY
Lucas Mahias (GMT94 Yamaha) shot off the line for P1 at lights out ahead of Can Oncu (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing). Eric Fernandez (Cerba Yamaha Racing Team) took no prisoners on an aggressive opening lap, moving up to P3 from P7. Determined to close out the Riders’ Championship in Race 1, Arenas was up to the podium positions in P3 by Lap 4. The #61 and the #47 battled with the Championship leader until both saw their races end early; Oncu saw his front tyre give way from P1 at Turn 9 of Lap 4, and the Spanish rider saw his impressive WorldSSP debut end ignominiously at Turn 2 on the next lap.
YAMAHA LOCKS DOWN ALL THREE TITLES ON SATURDAY
With 10 laps to go, Arenas fought more and more with Mahias as the Frenchman’s pace subsided as the race wound down. The pair of Triumph machines ridden by Bayliss and Booth-Amos each made their way up into the podium positions by Lap 10 and put on a show over the final five laps as they battled with the Championship leader and Alcoba, who made a late arrival to the podium fight. The #69 held off his teammate in the run to the line to win his fourth WorldSSP race. The #32 enjoyed one of his best races of the season, showing consistent pace and only just missed out on his maiden WorldSSP win. The #52 found a way past Arenas on the penultimate Lap 17 to snag the final podium place, but Arenas won’t be too bothered as his P4 finish bagged him his second World Championship. In the process, the other two 2026 world titles were also closed, as #75 and Aldi Mahendra landed the AS BLU CRU Racing Team the Teams’ Championship, and Yamaha closed Saturday with their 12th WorldSSP Manufacturers’ Championship.
DEBISE AND GARCIA IMPROVE FROM POOR FRIDAY RESULTS
Mahias couldn’t quite keep up with the rest of the pack over the full race distance; however, he kept things tidy and will take home a strong 11 points from P5 as he hopes to finish the 2026 season within the P10, currently five points behind P11. After starting back in P17, Debise’s poor Friday qualifying got even worse as he fell as far back as P22 on the opening lap. He got to work and climbed up to P10 by Lap 10. He kept his nose to the grindstone and finished P6, but it was too little, too late as his title rival closed the title race early. The #53 wasn’t the only rider to make an impressive comeback on Saturday; despite a P19 qualification in Friday’s Superpole session, he charged back up the grid to finish P7.
ZACCONE RETURNS TO THE TOP TEN
Italian Rider Alessandro Zaccone (Ecosantagata Althea Racing Team) took his first result back among the top ten places since his home round at Misano. He now trails Aldi Mahendra (AS BLU CRU Racing Team) by just two points from P11 in the standings. Ondrej Vostatek (Compos Racing Team) couldn’t quite cling to his top five grid spot but hung in tough within the top ten for a P9 finish. Closing out the top ten after starting back in P15, Philipp Oettl (Feel Racing WorldSSP Team) finished P10. Dominique Aegerter (Kawasaki WorldSSP Team) was on pace to convert his season-best Superpole result of P8 to a P8 finish, good for his second- strongest result of the season, until he crashed out on Turn 8 of Lap 13
