newsSpanish rider Jeremy Alcoba (Kawasaki WorldSSP Team) proved his mettle at the Cremona Circuit with an emphatic maiden FIM Supersport World Championship double, putting the paddock on notice as he hunts for a 2027 seat. His dominant EICMA Italian Round performance is the latest in a huge upswing in form over the last few rounds, including his first podium of the season two rounds ago at Donington Park. Now with his first WorldSSP pole and a pair of wins to his name, he will look to boost his stock over the final two rounds at Estoril and Jerez.
A MAIDEN POLE ENDS KAWASAKI’S DROUGHT
Alcoba struck late in the Tissot Superpole session with a 1’31.259s lap to steal a maiden pole from two-time 2026 polesitter Albert Arenas (AS BLU CRU Racing Team) by a mere 0.057s. The result marked Kawasaki’s first pole since Philipp Oettl (Feel Racing WorldSSP Team) from Jerez back in 2021.
“IT WAS A LITTLE LIKE WHAT SOME OF THE RIDERS HAVE BEEN DOING IN MOTOGP, A FIRST WIN AT THE TEAM’S HOME ROUND”
In a restarted Race 1On the restart, Alcoba was shown to P3 by Arenas and then Filippo Farioli (VFT Racing) on the first lap. The #52 got back into second place ahead of the #7 before the end of the opening lap, then on Lap 2, Alcoba pulled off an impressive Turn 11 move around the outside of the #75 for the race lead. From there, the #52 settled into the race, While Arenas tried to attack his countryman for P1, Alcoba had enough in hand to claim a first WorldSSP win and Kawasaki’s first in the class since Indonesia 2023.
In his interview after Race 1 on Saturday, he pointed out the shades of Pedro Acosta that his home win for his team had. Alcoba said: “It feels amazing because I’m not in a good moment of my career as I’m looking for something for next year. I’m focusing on myself and I’ve been riding that wave this weekend. I’ve felt natural since the first moment here, Even the start here Ithink was one of my best starts even with what may have been a more nervous position as I was starting from pole. I was in second until I saw my opportunity, I passed for P1. It was a little like what some of the riders have been doing in MotoGP, a first win at the team’s home round after a long time. So I’m quite happy.”
“I NEEDED TO CONTROL MYSELF IN THE CELEBRATIONS BECAUSE IF NOT, ON MONDAY I’D HAVE NO VOICE”
Alcoba came out swinging on Sunday, but the rest of the grid had made steps of their own overnight as he started from P2 behind Tom Booth-Amos (PTR Triumph Factory Racing) and fell back as low as P5 on the opening Lap. He found the feeling as the race continued, outbraking Valentin Debise (EASTROC ZXMOTO Factory Evan Bros Racing) into Turn 11 on Lap 4, and taking P3 from Farioli on Lap 5. Riding behind the top two, he chipped away at the deficit and studied their lines over the next nine laps before passing Booth-Amos at Turn 11. With the lap counting down, he measured the Championship leader’s pace and struck at his Lap 11 hunting grounds, holding off the #75 to finish nearly half a second faster. The win stamped what was already his best WorldSSP weekend, and he rode into Parc Ferme to a jubilant Kawasaki squad.
After his second win of the weekend, Alcoba said: “I lost my voice on Saturday after Race 1! On Sunday I needed to control myself in the celebrations because if not, Sunday night or Monday I’d have no voice. But I'm really happy; I felt really good on Friday, so I expected to do well. Riders always take Race 2 more personally than Race 1, so I was a bit nervous. I was trying to control myself a lot and focus. I knew the other riders would improve from yesterday. I was struggling a bit after seven Laps in Race 1, so on Sunday I decided to be smarter and smoother. I was feeling fast and smooth.”
