The FIM Supersport World Riders’ Championship battle will continue to Estoril as Jeremy Alcoba (Kawasaki WorldSSP Team) stayed hot in Italy, winning his second-ever WorldSSP race in sequential fashion. Albert Arenas (AS BLU CRU Racing Team) took P2 for his 16th podium of the campaign, but Valentin Debise’s P5 prevents him from clinching the title. With these results, the #75 will be crowned in Race 1 at Estoril if he can finish on the podium. Following the Arenas onto the bottom step of the rostrum, Tom Booth-Amos (PTR Triumph Factory Racing) bagged his sixth podium of the year, returning to the top three for the first time since his home double at Donington Park.
ALCOBA STRIKES LATE
Debise got stuck in early for the holeshot up from P3 but didn’t lead for long as Arenas went around the outside of Turn 2 to take the lead from his P4 grid start. The #75 went to work, digging deep and posting sub-1’31s times as he sailed away over the first five laps to a 1.1s tenth gap. Booth-Amos took back P2 on Lap 2 and tried to chase down the Spaniard, but he couldn’t keep up, losing the silver-medal spot to Alcoba on Lap 15. The #52 took up the challenge to unseat Arenas, and he managed just that on Turn 11 of the penultimate lap. He held off the Championship leader to complete his dream weekend at Cremona with his first-ever WorldSSP double. Booth-Amos held on for P3and while he wasn’t able to catch Arenas, he’ll welcome the podium after a tough outing in France.
FARIOLI FINISHES BEST ROUND OF HIS TWO SEASONS SO FAR
Filippo Farioli (VFT Racing) closed his best round of the weekend at home, following up on his first WorldSSP podium with a P4 finish in Race 2. Cremona marks his fifth-round finish in the top ten in both races, and, promisingly, his second in a row. Valentin Debise (EASTROC ZXMOTO Factory Evan Bros Racing) rode in the podium places over the first two laps, but he lost a position per lap over the first four laps and eventually finished in P5. Jaume Masia (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) led the second group home in P6 to close the round, improving on his Race 1 result.
OETTL DROPS A SPOT TO P7 IN THE RIDERS’ CHAMPIONSHIP
Philipp Oettl (Feel Racing WorldSSP Team) crossed the line just under two seconds behind the #5 but held off Federico Caricasulo (EASTROC ZXMOTO Factory Evan Bros Racing) for P7. The Italian behind him took an eighth-place finish in Race 2 and recovered from his P26 result to open the round after crashing in Race 1. The result is more in line with where his team would like to see him going forward after his P5 and P8 in France. Matteo Ferrari (WRP Racing) closed out his home round in P9, ahead of Lucas Mahias (GMT94 Yamaha) who took P10.
A TOUGH DAY FOR DE ROSA
After suffering a red-flag-inducing tech issue in the Warm-up session, as his bike spilt onto the start/finish straight this morning, Raffaele De Rosa (QJMOTOR Factory Racing) had a similar fate t, ending the day at Turn 1 when the tech issue ended his race. Aldi Mahendra (AS BLU CRU Racing Team) was running in P13 when he crashed out early in the race. Andrea Giombini (Motozoo by Madforce Dubai) crashed out on Turn 3 of Lap 12, ending his day early. Mattia Casadei (D34G WorldSSP Racing Team) crashed out of running in the top ten on Turn 7 with two laps to go, an unfortunate break to end his home round.
