Danilo Petrucci and the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team will not continue together in the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship beyond the end of the 2026 campaign. ‘Petrux’ spoke about his future at the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours where he announced that, mutually with BMW, there was a decision to not race in 2027. However, he did not rule out continuing with the German manufacturer in a different capacity or championship in the future.

Petrucci made the switch to BMW for the 2026 campaign after three years with the Barni Spark Racing Team. With the Independent Ducati outfit, the #9 became a regular podium contender, scoring 20 rostrums across his three seasons on the Ducati Panigale V4 R as well as claiming a hat-trick on home soil at Cremona. The Italian had often spoken about his desire to race in a factory seat and that came true in 2026 when BMW knocked on his door.

However, it’s been a tricky year for Petrucci as he has adapted to the M 1000 RR machine. His best result came in Race 2 at Phillip Island, when he brought his machine home in P6 in the rain, but he only has three other top-ten finishes this year while teammate Miguel Oliveira has stood on the rostrum four times. His season has been compromised due to injury when he sustained a fractured coccyx in a huge highside during Race 1 at the Autodrom Most. He returned to action at Donington Park where he finished in P15 in Race 1 and Race 2 as his best results.

With the summer break now over and riders gathering at Magny-Cours, Petrucci spoke about his future and revealed the mutual decision to not race with BMW in 2027. He said: “We decided, both me and BMW, to not continue in WorldSBK next year. We would both like to continue together in maybe some other position or championships, but it’s still too early to know. The only thing we know is that we will not continue together. It was a mutual decision. We both gave our best and this led us to say we can’t continue together. It’s time to think about it. Especially this year, I spent a lot of energy and scarified a lot, and I received back just a few good results, a lot of crashes and a big injury. It was tough to digest. Honestly, I’m not looking around so much. I want to give the priority to BMW because they helped me so much and I want to understand what their programme is. It’s hard to not race here, but who knows? Maybe in the future.”

Petrucci’s revelation comes on the day that Oliveira was announced as staying with BMW for ‘2027 and beyond’, but the #88 will have a new teammate next year following the news. There have been plenty of rumours swirling around the WorldSBK paddock in general about who might race where next year, with MotoGP star Brad Binder’s name linked to BMW.
