Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) extended his all-time winning run in the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship to 22 consecutive victories by claiming the Race 2 win at MotorLand Aragon. After an early challenge from teammate Iker Lecuona, the Italian rider pulled out a gap in the final race in the Aragon Round as Sam Lowes (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) completed the rostrum.
BULEGA MARCHES ON
Bulega got away well when lights went out and defended the lead from teammate Lecuona, although the #7 kept the pressure on the Championship leader over the first lap as the duo pulled out a gap over Sam Lowes in P3. Lecuona tried to pass at Turn 16 on Lap 1 but ‘Bulegas’ held the inside line to maintain P1. However, from there, the #11 was able to pull out a gap over his teammate to complete his sixth hat-trick of the 2026 season and his 22nd consecutive WorldSBK win, extending the all-time record. Lecuona settled into second place for his 15th consecutive second place. Behind them, the Sam Lowes made it three consecutive podiums for the second time this season, after Assen, and six in total.
GERLOFF BACK IN THE TOP SIX
Alberto Surra (Motocorsa Racing) initially made a good getaway but was a bit cautious through Turn 1, which allowed Alex Lowes (bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team) to move into fourth with the #67 slotting into fifth. A small mistake but the Italian into the clutches of Alex Lowes' teammate, Axel Bassani, who tried to pass his compatriot at Turn 1 at the start of Lap 8. However, ‘El Bocia’ went deep and that allowed Surra to maintain P5. On Lap 9, Bassani made the move on Surra to get into fifth, and the Independent Ducati rider couldn’t respond at Turn 16. Just a few laps later, on Lap 11, Alvaro Bautista (Barni Spark Racing Team) came through for P6 on Surra as the two-time WorldSBK Champion continued his superhuman weekend; less than two weeks on from surgery on foot/ankle fractures, the #19 was in the top six. Garrett Gerloff (Kawasaki WorldSBK Team), however, was on the charge, as he passed Surra at Turn 12 on Lap 12 and then Bautista a lap later at the same corner. At Turn 1 on Lap 14, Gerloff got back ahead at Turn 1 and was able to bridge a gap to Bautista to claim P6.
ANOTHER HEROIC EFFORT FROM BAUTISTA
Bautista was forced to settle for seventh, which was still a heroic effort, while Surra was still battling over position. After falling to P8, the #67 had to fend off Tommy Bridewell (Superbike Advocates), whose excellent form continued with another top-ten finish. However, despite seemingly having more pace than his fellow Independent Ducati rider, Bridewell was unable to make a move on Surra as the Italian claimed P8 and Bridewell P9. Michael van der Mark (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) secured a top-ten finish as he finished in P10, less than a second away from Bridewell.
SCORING POINTS IN RACE 2
Tarran Mackenzie (MGM Optical Express Racing) missed out on a spot in the top ten as he finished more than three seconds back from the #60, while he was a couple of seconds clear of Remy Gardner (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) as the Australian finished as the lead Yamaha rider. He was just ahead of Andrea Locatelli (Pata Maxus Yamaha) in 13th and Stefano Manzi (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) in 14th, while Somkiat Chantra (Honda HRC) claimed the last point on offer in Race 2 with 15th. Bahattin Sofuoglu (Motoxracing WorldSBK Team) finished in 16th place, directly ahead of teammate Mattia Rato, while Hannes Soomer (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) was the last classified rider; he crashed early on in Race 2, at Turn 15, but re-joined the action.
RETIRING FROM RACE 2
Lorenzo Baldassarri (Team GoEleven) and Xavi Vierge (Pata Maxus Yamaha) retired from the race after they crashed together at Turn 1. Yari Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team) had been fighting in the top ten before he crashed at Turn 9 on Lap 9. Although he re-joined the race, he brought his machine into the pits and retired.
