Balaton Park Circuit is the newest venue on the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship Calendar. The state-of-the-art facility was finished in May 2023, giving a fresh look to racing in Hungary. Situated a mere 2 kilometres from the scenic Lake Balaton, its seven right-hand, and ten left-hand corners comprise a unique layout which has riders and fans highly anticipating the circuit’s maiden round.
The Balaton region offers plentiful accommodation, catering to all tastes and budgets. Near the circuit, towns such as Balatonfüred, Balatonalmádi, and Siófok feature lakeside hotels, cozy guesthouses, and comfortable apartments. Balatonfüred is famous for elegant villas, spa hotels, and charming boutique accommodations along its scenic promenade. Siófok, often called the “party capital,” provides vibrant nightlife along with various family-friendly options and resorts. For a quieter stay, consider villages like Csopak or Alsóörs, known for tranquil beaches, local hospitality, and intimate bed-and-breakfast experiences. With peak summer season, booking early ensures availability, the best prices, and easy access to lakeside activities, restaurants, and shopping areas.
Lake Balaton, Central Europe’s largest freshwater lake, provides endless leisure possibilities. Water lovers can sail, kayak, or paddleboard on calm, clear waters. Cycle or hike the lakeshore paths to explore quaint villages, panoramic vineyards, and historic castles. Don’t miss Tihany peninsula with its lavender fields, charming shops, and iconic Abbey offering breathtaking vistas. Taste regional wines in picturesque Badacsony or explore Hungary’s thermal traditions in Hévíz, home to the world’s largest natural thermal lake. Vibrant Veszprém, the 2023 European Capital of Culture, offers cultural events, historic landmarks, and delightful local eateries. Every corner of Balaton promises unique adventures, relaxation, and memorable moments.
Enjoy Balaton like a local—embrace slower rhythms, regional flavors, and hidden gems away from tourist crowds. Taste authentic Hungarian dishes like freshwater fish soup, grilled pike-perch ("fogas"), or traditional sour-cherry rétes pastry. Visit family-run wineries in Badacsony or Csopak, famous for mineral-rich volcanic wines. Consider getting a Balaton Card for convenient local transport and discounts. Beaches often charge a small entry fee but offer excellent facilities, playgrounds, and dining options. Pack sunscreen, a swimsuit, and casual attire for warm days, plus a light jacket for cooler evenings by the lake. Combine your Balaton visit with a day trip to Budapest, easily accessible within 90 minutes by motorway.
While this will be the debut season at Balaton Park Circuit, Hungary’s Hungaroring hosted a total of six WorldSBK races from 1988-1990. Across that period, American rider Fred Merkel made Hungary his home, winning four of the six races held across the three seasons.
