David Salvador (Team ProDina Kawasaki XCI) will step up to the FIM Supersport World Championship next season after inking a deal with Kawasaki WorldSSP Team for 2027. Salvador currently leads the WorldSPB standings as he looks to become the first Champion in World Sportbike, holding a 34-point lead over teammate Antonio Torres with three rounds of the season remaining.
Salvador started his career inside the WorldSBK paddock in 2024 in WorldSSP300, finishing 12th in his first season and claiming victory in Race 1 at Jerez. The following year, he finished third, behind Benat Fernandez (Kove Racing Team 109) and Carter Thompson (Team BrCorse) and stayed with Prodina Kawasaki for the debut of World Sportbike. That’s proven to be a good choice from the Spaniard, who leads the standings with 164 points. He’s won two races this season and claimed seven rostrums.
Salvador also has Moto3 experience, competing in sporadic races in 2021 and 2022, before a full-season campaign in 2023. He took a best finish of sixth at the British Grand Prix as he finished the campaign in 21st place. Prior to that, he spent three years in the FIM Moto3 Junior World Championship, taking a best Championship finish of fifth in 2021. The Madrid-born rider was third in the 2018 European Talent Cup and also had two seasons in the Red Bull Rookies Cup, finishing fourth in 2019 as his best result.
On his move to WorldSSP for 2027, the 23-year-old said: “I feel super happy. Thanks to Kawasaki for trusting me and giving me this opportunity. It’s very nice to start working with this manufacturer. I’m very excited to start but, for now, I have one team for the future and right now we’re focused on my Championship in WorldSPB. When I spoke with Manuel Puccetti, he told me that I’m a good rider in the final laps, very consistent. He said this is one thing that Kawasaki likes. I’m very happy because the first time I spoke with Manuel and Kawasaki, they trusted me a lot. I’m feeling confident with them.”
Despite the early announcement of his move to WorldSSP, Salvador is still focused on graduating as a World Sportbike Champion: “The important thing is the present. This move is for the future so let’s see, but the most important thing is to stay focused on the Championship, with my team, because they gave me the bike to get this opportunity. It’s a good moment for me and us. The first announcement is now because I’m calm about my future, and I always focus on my present.”
