Bulega starts Sunday strong ahead of Sam Lowes and Montella with two WorldSBK races remaining in Aragon

WorldSBK has lit the fuse on an explosive final day at Aragon to come

The climactic final day of what’s been a red-hot MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship weekend is here, and the field warmed up their engines in the Warm Up session.

Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) painted the grid’s top spot factory Ducati red as he finished with a 1’47.903s for the fastest time of the day. Sam Lowes (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) showed his pace with a 1’47.954s time good for P2; however, after time expired on the session, the Brit saw gravel, which he hopes to put behind him in the Tissot Superpole Race. Yari Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team) started his day strong with a P3 to ring in Sunday’s first session, six tenths behind Bulega.

Clocking in a 1’48.647s time, which earned him P4, Iker Lecuona (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) will look to tinker with his bike before the Superpole Race to close the gap to his teammate Alberto Surra (Motocorsa Racing), who landed P5, just half a tenth behind the Spaniard. Surra’s duelling partner from Race 2 at Most, Garrett Gerloff (Kawasaki WorldSBK Team), chased him on the timesheets with a 1’48.768s time.

Lorenzo Baldassarri (Team GoEleven) was the next up on the order, his 1’48.854s time outpacing Aragon specialist Alvaro Bautista (Barni Spark Racing Team) by only four thousandths. A pair of British independent Ducatis brought up the rear of the top ten in the form of Tarran Mackenzie (MGM Optical Express Racing) ahead of Tommy Bridewell (Superbikes Advocates). The former was just under a quarter faster than the 2023 BSB champion thanks to his 1’49.094s time.
