Valentin Debise (ZXMOTO Factory Evan Bros Racing) and the Chinese manufacturer ZXMOTO made history in the FIM Supersport World Championship in Portugal when the French rider secured a double victory at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve. It was ZXMOTO's second round in the championship after joining forces with the Evan Bros Racing team, and team manager Fabio Evangelista has reacted to their historic Pirelli-sponsored lap in Portugal.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: "A dream come true... something incredible, something crazy"

ZXMOTO's announcement came towards the end of 2025, with the Chinese brand partnering with Evangelista's team for its first WorldSSP season and signing riders Debise and Federico Caricasulo; both riders were already familiar to the team. In Australia, the number 53 put the ZXMOTO 820RR on the front row, but nobody could have predicted the success at Portimão in the second round, when Debise took two wins – becoming the first Chinese manufacturer to win in World Supersport.

Regarding Debise's victories, Evangelista said: “We probably haven't fully grasped what we've achieved in such a short time with this new motorcycle and a new manufacturer, founded only in February 2024. It's a dream... a dream come true. Something incredible, something crazy – above all, the result of the extremely hard work of the entire team, who believed in this project from the very beginning. It stems from the motivation and enormous passion that define us, as well as the experience and professionalism we've built up over the years in WorldSSP. I don't think we had to prove to anyone that we were good enough, but I think we wanted to prove it to ourselves by taking on a new and difficult challenge and raising the bar even higher. Honestly, we took a huge risk. We're very emotional at the moment, but we'll all be back at work on the project, analyzing the data and striving for improvements – we're never satisfied.”

EXPECTATIONS EXCEEDED: "For me, in the short to medium term, this meant the period from the second half of our first year together to the first half of the second."

Evangelista sprach erstmals im November 2025 auf der EICMA über das Projekt, wo er erklärte, das Potenzial des Motorrads liege kurz- bis mittelfristig darin, starke Ergebnisse zu erzielen; Evangelista räumte jedoch ein, dass sein Zeitplan vom letzten Jahr nach Debises Siegen übertroffen worden sei. Er erklärte: „Auf der EICMA wollte ich ehrlich gesagt sehr optimistisch sein. Für mich bedeutete kurz- bis mittelfristig die Zeit von der zweiten Hälfte unseres ersten gemeinsamen Jahres bis zur ersten Hälfte des zweiten. Wir wussten nicht, was uns beim ersten Rennen in Australien erwarten würde, da das Projekt noch so jung ist, und ehrlich gesagt war die erste Startreihe eine große Überraschung – vor allem dank einer unglaublichen (110-prozentigen) Leistung von Valentin, der mehr erreicht hat, als wir jemals erwartet hätten. In Portugal hat er noch mehr gegeben. Ich denke, es ist jedem klar, dass Valentin seit 2024 zu einem der besten Fahrer in dieser Meisterschaft geworden ist und wir ihn nicht zufällig ausgewählt haben, wobei sein kontinuierliches Wachstum durch seine Siege und Podiumsplätze im Jahr 2025 bestätigt wurde. Ebenso klar ist, dass es dem Team in so kurzer Zeit und mit großer Unterstützung des Herstellers gelungen ist, ein Motorrad zu bauen, das perfekt zu ihm passt – während wir das bei Caricasulo noch nicht ganz erreicht haben.“

ERFOLG IN DER WERTUNG: „Der Doppelsieg, den wir an diesem Wochenende in Portugal errungen haben, hat uns einen neuen Geschmack vermittelt, etwas, das wir noch nie zuvor erlebt hatten“

Das Evan Bros Racing Team hat seit seinem WorldSSP-Debüt im Jahr 2016 enorme Erfolge gefeiert und bei seinem Debüt mit Caricasulo auf Honda einen Podiumsplatz errungen. Für 2018 wechselten sie zu Yamaha, wobei Randy Krummenacher zum Team stieß, bevor sie 2019 auf zwei Fahrer erweiterten – Krummenacher und „Carica“ –, die in der Gesamtwertung die Plätze 1 und 2 belegten. Im Jahr 2020 stieß Andrea Locatelli (Pata Maxus Yamaha) zum Team und dominierte die Saison, bevor sie 2021 mit Steven Odendaal und 2022 mit Lorenzo Baldassarri (Team GoEleven) Siege einfuhren. Außerdem haben sie mehrere Team-Meisterschaften gewonnen, darunter im letzten Jahr mit der Yamaha R9, während sie 2024 mit Ana Carrasco (Honda Racing World Supersport) auch den WorldWCR-Titel holten. Wo ordnet Evangelista den ZXMOTO-Sieg inmitten all dieser Erfolge ein?

“We’ve been fortunate enough to experience many unforgettable and emotional moments over the years,” he began. “It all started with the first round of the 2016 WorldSSP Championship in Australia, our first time competing in the championship, when we immediately secured second place with Federico Caricasulo. Then came our first world title with Randy, followed by the one with Locatelli. We mustn’t forget the many wins and podium finishes in the years that followed, nor the emotional season with Ana Carrasco. These are memories we’ll never forget. But the one-two finish we achieved this weekend in Portugal has given us a new feeling, something we’ve never experienced before.”

A TITLE FIGHT? “Our shared goal for this season was – and still is – to further develop the motorcycle together… But we certainly won’t be the ones to put the brakes on Valentin’s ambitions.”

After two rounds and four races, Debise sits in third place in the overall standings with 50 points from Portimao. He is 21 points behind championship leader Jaume Masia (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) and 15 behind Albert Arenas (AS BLU CRU Racing Team) in second place, although Evangelista stated that the championship is not currently his goal.

He said: “Being third in the championship after only two races doesn’t really mean much for any rider, in my opinion. For Valentin, it’s important to be able to compete with the other top riders already, which is a remarkable achievement in itself. Our shared goal for this season was – and still is – to further develop the bike together with the team and ZXMOTO and make it competitive. But we certainly won’t be the ones to hold back Valentin’s ambitions.”
