Chantra undergoes successful surgical procedure after preseason training incident
After further medical analysis, the #35 was deemed to require surgical intervention on both arms, procedures which were carried out successfully in his home country
Somkiat Chantra’s (Honda HRC) rookie MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship season preparations took a turn for the worse as he suffered an accident in training at Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit. The 27-year-old rider returned to Thailand, where a subsequent medical assessment determined that both arms required surgery. The procedure was carried out successfully on Saturday, January 17th at Bangkok Hospital.
Honda HRC released the following statement on the state of their rider: “Following further medical examinations after his return to Thailand, Somkiat Chantra successfully underwent surgery on both arms on Saturday, January 17th, at Bangkok Hospital. His right arm has been placed in a cast, while the left arm did not require one. Further updates on Chantra’s recovery timeline will be provided in due course.”
