Van der Mark reveals 2026 plans with BMW: "We’re looking at different options…"
The Dutchman is aiming to stay with the German manufacturer for next year but revealed: “I won’t continue in WorldSBK with BMW”
Michael van der Mark (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) has provided an update on his MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship future. Speaking at the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours, the #60 revealed he won’t continue in WorldSBK with BMW although is planning on staying with the German brand beyond the end of this season.
Van der Mark first joined BMW in 2021, claiming three podiums including a stunning wet-weather win at Portimao in that first season with the manufacturer. Two injury-hit seasons followed in 2022 and 2023, but the Dutchman appeared to be back to his best in 2024, claiming two rostrums as he was reunited with Toprak Razgatlioglu. One of his podiums was a victory at Magny-Cours, overcoming rain and a chaotic race to take his first win since 2021.
However, this year has been considerably tougher for van der Mark who finished in the top six of the standings last year. He’s only been in the top seven on three occasions – all at Portimao – and only has one top-ten finish since Most; coming in Race 2 at Misano. With his contract expiring at the end of the season, speculation about his future was rife – particularly when BMW announced Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) for 2026 without naming a teammate for ‘Petrux’.
Now, the 32-year-old has spoken about his future, saying: “I think BMW made a good decision to sign Danilo. He’s third in the standings and I think he’ll fit the team and bike very well. That’s good for the team. On my side, I won’t continue in WorldSBK with BMW although I plan to stay with BMW. We’re looking at different options. One of them, and I’m looking forward to and is my wish right now, is to go to MotoAmerica. We’re working on it. This is my plan to stay with BMW. We’ve planned a lot of things together with them and, of course, my Suzuka endurance team. I had a good time there so this could be in the pipeline. I want to stay with BMW.
“I’ve been here quite a long time and sometimes things don’t plan out how you want; that’s what happened this year. If I can stay with BMW, we can have a fresh start in another championship. I don’t feel like you have to stay there just to stay there. You can find something new. If I could stay with BMW, that would be fantastic.”
