"I’m happy to take a top 5 for all the effort today despite how I was feeling." – Sam Lowes in the top five despite being unwell
After a rough Tissot Superpole Race, Sam Lowes fought through illness to keep his positive 2025 momentum moving onto Most
Cremona Circuit’s Acerbis Italian Round was an exercise in overcoming adversity both within and without for Sam Lowes. Beset by flu-like symptoms, the British second-year rider overcame a P12 result in Race 1 to log back-to-back top five finishes in Sunday’s Tissot Superpole Race and Race 2. Lowes’ 2025 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship campaign has shown huge growth from his 2024 rookie season, and at Cremona the #14 notched another strong result.
“Two top fives is decent, I really enjoyed the Tissot Superpole Race, battling with Alvaro towards the end”– Lowes on his weekend
After a strong Tissot Superpole in which he was only outpaced by eventual hat-trick winner Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati), Lowes earned a P2 start for Race 1, however an issue with his gear shifter meant he had to battle hard to stay with the group and eventually finish in P12. Sunday however told another story, remaining towards in the front in the Superpole Race, and in Race 2, while he fell back to P8 after another poor start, he went on to recover positions and finish P5.
On his Sunday at Cremona, the #14 said, “Two top fives is decent, I really enjoyed the Tissot Superpole Race, battling with Alvaro towards the end, he had a little bit of speed on me, but it was nice to catch him and go with him. Then in the longer race, I struggled a bit physically but I had a battle to catch Locatelli then a battle to catch Vierge so it helped me focus on the race and not how I was feeling. It wasn’t too bad at all, after the flag it was hard work. The starts were bad all weekend, bad all day Saturday, I had a small problem with the bike which didn’t help, but then again both races Sunday, I think I just wasn’t sharp enough, feeling a bit average and just wanting to get into the race.”
“I don’t remember Most fondly, but we’ve been stronger every track this year, I don’t see why we couldn’t do it at Most. “– Lowes looks ahead to Most
Lowes’ Race 2 perseverance through illness was rewarded with important Riders’ Championship points to defend his P6 position from Andrea Iannone (Team Pata Go Eleven) and Xavi Vierge (Honda HRC) behind him. Lowes will take 21 points from Cremona, gaining five points on Iannone, but losing five points to Vierge, who sits in P8 behind him only 11 points back. Lowes is looking forward to rectifying the unfortunate weekend he had at Most in 2024, His Superpole Race ended early last time out in Lap 3, when he crashed and was later diagnosed with a broken left collarbone.
On his Race 2 battle and looking ahead to Most, Sam Lowes said, “It was nice to battle with the Hondas, Iker did a really good move on his teammate in the last corner with a couple laps to go and it was large enough for me to slip through as well. Then, on the last lap, Iker is really strong on the brakes, and I went to out brake him on the straight; I had to release then brake again to get past him, it was a big move. I’m happy to take a top 5 for all the effort today despite how I was feeling. I don’t have a great memory from Most, but think I every track this year so far we’ve been stronger, so I don’t see why we couldn’t do it at Most. It would be really nice for me mentally to get a nice result to take away the memories from last year.”
