Coghlan happy with fourth despite narrowly missed podium

Kev Coghlan (DMC-Lorenzini Kawasaki) delivered the best result of his World Supersport rookie season with a fourth place at Silverstone last weekend. The British rider was in contention for third up to the last lap, but he was edged out at the chequered flag by Frenchman Fabien Foret (Mahi Racing Team India Kawasaki) by just 0.094 seconds. Despite missing what would have been his maiden podium finish in WSS, Coghlan is far from disappointed of his home round performance.

"No, not disappointed at all" he told WorldSBK.com. "We need to take things a step at a time and I think I really learnt a lot from running at the front and fight with someone as experienced as Foret. It's our best result so far this year so we are all happy with it."

Coghlan's first part of the season was a difficult one, with several DNFs that built up some frustration and didn't allow the Scotsman to turn his potential into results. If there is anyone to blame for it, Coghlan knows who he is: "The only thing that prevented these kind of results earlier in the season was my crashing! In Aragon we had a shot at the podium at least and in Phillip Island and Imola we were also on for good results before I got a bit of brain-fade (laughs)! I think we have had the speed pretty much all year, but now it is getting a bit more comfortable and consistent.

"The main thing for the rest of the season will be to keep improving, it's my first season in WSS and we are here to learn. It would also be nice to step in the podium before the end of the year. We'll try our best!"
