Round 3 of the 2019 Motul FIM Superbike World Championship took place at the famous Spanish circuit of MotorLand Aragón, which marked the beginning of the busiest time of the year for WorldSBK as the championship returned to Europe in full swing.

With Bautista (ARUBA.IT Racing – Ducati) heading into his home round as championship leader, Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) still in search of his first win this year and the WorldSSP300 championship making its debut at the Motocard Aragón Round, there were plenty of action and drama on the menu for the third round of the year.

Bautista stays unbeaten – 3 out of 3 (again!)

3 out of 3 in Australia, then in Thailand again, on a racetrack he barely knew. Do you think he missed out on keeping his sensational winning streak at his home round in Spain? Of course not! Imposing his dominant pace from Friday free practices to the Tissot Superpole, Bautista was the man to beat once again on the 5.077 km of Motorland Aragón. As a real “conquistador” the Spanish rider went on to make the Spanish racetrack his territory. And he did it fashionably, breaking every record possible and taking other three solo victories in front of his fans! Bautista extended to 9 his consecutive wins in WorldSBK in his debut season, but will the Spaniard be able to keep up with his momentum all season?

Best battles of the weekend: Jonathan Rea vs. Alex Lowes and Chaz Davies

With Alvaro Bautista out of reach, for reigning World Champion Jonathan Rea there was nothing left to do than trying to close the races as nearest as possible to his opponent. Second, in all the WorldSBK races held till then, the Northern Irishman couldn’t hand those precious 21 points to someone else! First with Alex Lowes (Pata Yamaha WorldSBK Team) in Race 1 and then with Chaz Davies (ARUBA.IT Racing – Ducati) in Race 2, Rea had to put on the best performances in his career and had to battle against them for the entirety of the two encounters. At MotorLand Aragón, the British riders swept places and went head-to-head for the podium spots putting on a sensational display!

Davies tames the new Ducati Panigale V4 R!

For Chaz Davies, 2019 didn’t start as he was precisely expecting. Hindered by injury and back pain during the winter break, the British rider didn’t have enough chances to get acquainted with is all-new Ducati V4 R. While his teammate Bautista didn’t require lots of time to demonstrate that the new Ducati bike is indeed a winning weapon, it took longer for Davies to get his head around the new red machine. But after struggling in Australia and Thailand, the ARUBA.it Racing – Ducati rider finally found his feet at Aragón as he put on a sensational performance returning on the podium in both main races.

Eugene Laverty shows promise

As he joined Team Goeleven late at the end of 2018, Eugene Laverty missed part of the winter test sessions and was able to throw his legs on the new Ducati Panigale V4 R for the first time just a month before the start of the new season. Despite that, the Irishman made quick progress, and as he arrived at MotorLand Aragón, it was back into the top six. Showing a promising pace already on Friday, Laverty qualified sixth on the grid for Race 1, but on the first encounter of the Motocard Aragón Round, the 33-year-old closed just 15th after crashing out and rejoining the race. Sunday saw Laverty closing both the Tissot Superpole Race and the main race in sixth position, and as best independent rider. 

2019 WorlSSP300 season kick-off!

MotorLand Aragón set the stage for a memorable opening round of the 2019 WorldSSP300 season. The most exciting WorldSBK feeder class returned into action for its third edition on the 5.077 km of the Spanish racetrack and hosted an incredible show! With local hero Ana Carrasco (Kawasaki Provec WorldSSP300) defending her title and former 2017 World Champion Marc Garcia (DS Junior Team) returning to the scene after having been out in 2018. But surprisingly it was another Spanish rider to steel the headlines at Aragón, as Manuel Gonzalez (Kawasaki ParkinGO Team) went on to win a first action-packed and dramatic 2019 WorldSSP300 race.
