World Champion Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) will need to find even more room in his trophy cabinet as he secured the Pirelli Best Lap award for the 2020 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship season. The award is based on the fastest laps set in Race 1 and Race 2 with a maximum of 16 points available across eight rounds; one point awarded per fastest lap set.

Rea led the way with seven full-race fastest laps across the season, more than double his nearest rival, with the Northern Irishman failing to set at least one fastest lap in either Race 1 or Race 2 at MotorLand Aragon for the Teruel Round and Circuito Estoril for the Estoril Round. He did claim both fastest laps at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve as he took a show-stopping hat-trick of race victories.

Three Ducati riders finished behind Rea in the Pirelli Best Lap standings with Chaz Davies (ARUBA.IT Racing – Ducati) taking three race fastest laps in his final season with the ARUBA.IT Racing team, finishing just ahead of teammate and rookie Scott Redding with two. Redding was matched by his 2021 teammate, Michael Ruben Rinaldi, as the Italian took two fastest laps at the Teruel Round when competing for Team GOELEVEN. Two Yamaha riders also claimed a fastest lap during the season as Michael van der Mark (PATA YAMAHA WorldSBK Official Team) and Loris Baz (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha) taking one, Baz’s fastest lap coming on home soil at the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours.

In World Supersport, Andrea Locatelli (BARDAHL Evan Bros. WorldSSP Team) set 11 fastest laps across the 2020 season out of a possible 15 as he claimed the World Championship in scintillating style; wrapping up the Pirelli Best Lap award in Race 1 at the Teruel Round – the eighth round of the season. Isaac Viñales (Kallio Racing) claimed two fastest laps across the season, including one at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, while Estonian Hannes Soomer (Kallio Racing) claimed one in wet conditions at Magny-Cours.

The award in World Supersport 300 went to 2018 World Champion Ana Carrasco (Kawasaki Provec WorldSSP300) despite her missing six races after she was injured in a testing crash at the Circuito Estoril. The Spanish rider picked up four fastest laps in the first four rounds to claim the award, with 2020 Champion Jeffrey Buis (MTM Kawasaki MOTOPORT) and Samuel di Sora (Leader Team Flembbo) claiming two each. The other six fastest laps were shared out between side riders: Scott Deroue (MTM Kawasaki MOTOPORT), Bahattin Sofuoglu (Biblion Motoxracing Yamaha WorldSSP300), Koen Meuffels (MTM Kawasaki MOTOPORT), Unai Orradre (Yamaha MS Racing), Nick Kalinin (Battley-RT Motorsports by SKM-Kawasaki) and Glenn van Straalen (EAB Ten Kate Racing).
