Danilo PetrucciAt the halfway point of the 2009 European Superstock 600 Championship it is very much an open affair still with three riders having won races, one rider having won three on his own. Only 12 points cover the first four riders, and only 18 the top five.

Although Yamaha machines have tended to dominate this year, they have not been having it all their own way, with the overall rankings showing a Honda in second place.

The leader of the pack is Italian Danilo Petrucci (Yamaha Trasimeno), who is now only four points ahead of Gino Rea (Ten Kate Honda) from Epsom in the UK. At Donington, the fifth of the ten rounds, third place rider Marco Bussolotti (Yamaha Trasimeno) took his first win of the year, in a classic fight with Rea, which went right down to the last corner.

Jeremy Guarnoni (MRS Racing Yamaha), like Rea, is one of only two riders in the top five to have scored in all five races. Vincent Lonbois (MTM Racing Yamaha), from Belgium, is only 18 points behind Petrucci, his three podiums contributing well to his overall score of 64 points.

Of all 15 podium places this year, 14 have gone to the top five, the other to the recently injured Dutch rider Joey Litjens (VD Heyden Motors Yamaha), at home in Assen.
