Carlos Checa (Althea Racing Ducati) scored an early blow in the first unofficial practice session at Silverstone in the eni FIM Superbike World Championship class. With leaden skies overhead Checa put in the best lap of the session relatively early before rains of increasing weight prevented any of the 24 riders on display improving their best pace. Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) proved to be the second quickest man, with Jakub Smrz (Liberty Racing Team Effenbert Ducati) third quickest and Pata Ducati rider Sylvain Guintoli fourth quickest.
