Haslam's special 'relationship' with Donington Park
With just a few days to go before the second round of the season at Donington Park, one rider more than anyone else has special thoughts about the East Midlands circuit, and that rider is BMW Motorrad Motorsport's Leon Haslam.

The 'Pocket Rocket' in fact lives a short distance away from the circuit and has spent a large part of his life in Derby, which is just twenty minutes away by car. Given his excellent start to the season, Haslam is clearly optimistic about the upcoming round.

For all the Brits Donington is the home round, but for you it's something even more important, since you live and grew up so close to the track. What are your feelings about racing at Donington Park?

"For me Donington is very important. I have done so many laps around there over my life and I was very worried at one point that we might lose it as a circuit all together. I am really looking forward to racing there this weekend."

After all the difficulties you passed through during the pre-season, what do you think is the level of the package you have at the moment? What is there still to improve the most?

"We are working very hard as a team to improve what we have. The package is amazing, the bike is unbelievable but we are just trying to make it a bit more consistent at the moment. There are still improvements to be made in a few area's but as I say we are working hard and we are not a million miles away."

What's your goal for the upcoming weekend?

"My goal as always is to win, that's what I go for every weekend but it means so much more at my home round. I know Donington so well so I know exactly what I want from the bike. This weekend we will just be focused on finishing as high as possible."
