Donington Park welcomes popular additions to the WorldSBK grid

With the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship heading straight for the historic Donington Park Circuit, there will be plenty of on track action for local fans to looks forward to, as Leon Haslam, Bradley Ray, Gino Rea and Mason Law will line up on the grid from 25th – 27th May.

Hosting the Prosecco DOC UK Round, Donington Park always provides fantastic racing action and entertainment for the British crowds, with their home heroes taking the WorldSBK grid by storm. But this season will see British sensation Bradley Ray enter the weekend with Buildbase Suzuki, Gino Rea make his debut with OMG Racing UK, and Mason Law comes up with his TEAM WD40 machine. Not forgetting Leon Haslam, who will continue with Kawasaki Puccetti Racing after a steady weekend last time out at Imola.

20 year old Ray began his racing career in the Red Bull Rookies Cup, spending three seasons competing in the cup – from 2012 to 2014. With a strong and consistent career in Europe, Ray had two seasons in CEV racing in both Moto3 and Moto2. Moving back to his home nation and competing in domestic championships, he was third in the 2016 British Supersport Championship before making the step up to British Superbikes. Taking the double win in sensational style at Donington Park for the season opener this year, he will be one to watch as WorldSBK descends on Donington.

2009 European Superstock 600 Champion Gino Rea will make his return to the WorldSBK paddock for his home round, as he prepares to make his debut in the premier class with OMG Racing UK. 28 year old Rea has been in the paddock since 2007, crowned STK600 champion in 2009 and made the step into WorldSSP in 2010. Out of 59 race starts, Rea was able to secure seven podium finishes – one at Donington Park – and one victory around Brno. Now making the step up to the 1000cc machines, it will be interesting to see what Rea can do on his Suzuki GSX-R1000.

The third British entry for the Prosecco DOC UK Round is 22 year old Mason Law, who will be at the helm of a ZX-10RR machine. National Superstock 600 champion in 2015, the British rider is not shy of success and has made the step into the leading national championship in 2018 following seasons in Supersport and Superstock 1000 championships. After a tough start to his campaign in Britain, he will be hoping to impress in front of his home crowds at Donington Park.

Leon Haslam, who has 215 WorldSBK race starts to his name and a whole host of experience around his local circuit of Donington Park, will be a strong contender next weekend. The British rider competed in the UK WorldSBK Round last season, taking a stunning podium finish in race one before crashing out of race two. With experience on the Puccetti bike already this season, Haslam is yet to take the victory in the class at Donington Park so he will be hungry for the fight on the ZX-10RR.

Keep up with the progress of the wild card and one event riders in the Prosecco DOC UK Round, all with the WorldSBK VideoPass.
