Saturday, 7 July 2018 13:40 GMT

Scorching summer sunshine welcomes stunning lap times

Continuing his domination in the European Superstock 1000 Championship, Markus Reiterberger (alpha Racing-Van Zon-BMW) took pole position as he beat the lap record time by two tenths of a second around Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, under scorching summer skies.

Setting the fastest time early on in the session, the German championship leader was never challenged throughout the half hour session this afternoon, only needing to set two fastest laps throughout the session. Ending with 1.36.122, his time as well as race pace will put him in a good position to extend his championship lead in the race.

Italian wild cards Riccardo Russo (MOTOCORSA Racing) and Matteo Ferrari (BARNI Racing Team) rounded out the front row as the pair battled to impress their home crowds, with 0.131 covering the pair around the 4.2km circuit.

It was a good session for the one event riders as Andrea Mantovini (Nuova M2 Racing) starts from the front of the second row with a lap time of 1.36.773, ahead of championship contender Maximilian Schieb (Aprilia Racing Team) and regular podium finisher Roberto Tamburini (Berclaz Racing Team), just 0.775s off Reiterberger’s time.

Federico Sandi (MOTOCORSA Racing) heads the third row, ahead of Axel Bassani (DMR Racing) sits in eighth position, as Luca Vitali (Aprilia Racing Team) sits just over a second behind the leader. With a second covering the top nine, there will be plenty of on track battles to enjoy throughout the 15 lap race.
