Mistake on the final lap causes rookie to miss out on podium finish

Making his debut appearance around the Chang International Circuit, Sandro Cortese (Kallio Racing) was disappointed to narrowly miss out on the podium finish as he heads to Europe with the championship in mind, but finds the positives from salvaging fourth position in a tough battle out on track.

Starting from the front of the second row, the German rider was able to be up and battling for the podium in an intense fight, as the battle for the lead began to slip away. Unable to keep up with the pace of the front runners, Cortese had a fight on his hands with Federico Caricasulo (GRT Yamaha Official WorldSSP Team) for the final podium position.

Making a move on the final lap which was unable to secure him the podium spot, the 28 year old is now looking ahead to Europe: “It was a good result, I was a bit disappointed I could not finish on the podium today, I felt strong but I just couldn’t pass Caricasulo and lost the two guys in the front. At the end of the day we took points home, we’ve not lost too many points in the championship and I think the overall weekend has been ok.”

“When you see as a rider that you could finish on the podium but you make a mistake on the final lap in the last corner, it’s hard,” continues Cortese. “I think Aragon and Assen will be a good challenge for me and I think I can challenge for the podium or even a win.”
