P5 for Laverty and P6 for Savadori in Race 2 saw team build on good top ten Saturday results

After both finishing in the top ten on Saturday - at the Pirelli Riviera Di Rimini Round - Milwaukee Aprilia riders Eugene Laverty and Lorenzo Savadori both went on to improve their results in Sunday’s race at the Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli”.

Laverty’s sixth place in Race 1 was his best of the year so far and he went one better on Sunday to take fifth place on the Aprilia RSV4 RFs in front of the Italian fans.

Starting in P3 in Race 2, the Irishman went on the attack, jostling for positions with Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) and Marco Melandri (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) in the early stages of the race. As the lead group began to edge away Laverty managed his race pace well, eventually taking fifth place and leading home teammate Savadori.

At the end of the seventh round of the 2017 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship Laverty commented, “P5 is our best result of the year so far, so we’ve got to take positives from that. The front guys still got away from us at the start which was hard to take, but it was a better race. I managed a consistent pace and it was good to bring home decent points.”

He added, “Looking ahead to Round 8 at Laguna Seca, it’s a track where the rider can make a lot of difference, so that should be a lot of fun. The fifth we got here is the benchmark we should be aiming for, and hopefully we’ll deliver another good performance in America.”

For Savadori meanwhile, sixth was his second best result of 2017 so far having finished fifth in Race 1 at Assen.

“It was a positive weekend for us,” stated the Italian. “P6 was a good result, but we need to do a lot of work on the race starts because I am slow there at the moment. We also made some changes to the front after the problems on Saturday. They helped me but the problem is still there, so we have some work to do when we leave Misano. I am happy with more points, and I want keep up these performances. I’m feeling good for Laguna Seca next month.”
