Young Brit signs with Hopkins racing for 2017

Another piece of the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship has come together as British rider Luke Hopkins makes a step onto the world stage with Hopkins racing, following a season in the Team Green Junior Cup in the UK.

Narrowly missing out on securing the cup title last season, the 15 year old ended the season 11 points off the top and clearly has the competitive edge that will be needed in the new class. On top of this, Hopkins has made several Moto3 wildcard appearances in the British Superbike Championship series last season.

Hopkins also is familiar with circuits outside of the UK, which will no doubt benefit the youngster as he has a whole host of circuits to learn. Competing in several rounds of the Moriwaki Cup has allowed him to race at tracks such as Assen, Portimao and Donington Park, providing vital knowledge ahead of the new season.

“I can’t wait to take this next step in my racing career,” Hopkins explained, “Last year I really got comfortable with the Ninja 300 so making this step up makes perfect sense. It will be great to be riding against riders on similar paced bikes at some great European circuits. Thanks to thank my sponsors who’ve all been tremendously supportive in getting me here.”
