Brit narrowly misses out on podium finish

Alex Lowes (Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team) leaves the Yamaha Finance Australian Round feeling positive, off the back of two fourth position finishes.

Starting from pole position for race two under the new grid format, the 26 year old was able to get a strong start and lead the way in the opening laps, fighting for the lead. Locked in the intense battle, the pace in the second race was so high and Lowes was just unable to keep up with the leaders.

Forced to settle for fourth position after showing such strong pace over the weekend, the Lincolnshire rider is happy to take away positives from the opening round of the season. Hailing his team’s effort throughout the winter as well as the weekend, Lowes looks ahead to the future.

Keen to take this pace with him to Round two in Thailand in two weeks time, Lowes explains: “The team have done a good job over winter and I’ve improved in some areas. It was close today, I felt like I had a little bit in the tank for the last few laps but it just didn’t work out. I have to take the two fourth positions, and I have to be a bit stronger and move onto Thailand where we have to fight really hard to be in the same position as this weekend. My goal is to be behind the Kawasaki and the next strongest person.”
