Michael van der Mark’s crew chief discusses the challenges ahead

Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team have made some substantial changes over the winter, and with a new rider in Michael van der Mark the team are continuing to learn and understand their full potential, with each Round a new challenge.

Securing two top ten finishes in his debut weekend aboard the YZF-R1, the Dutchman had a solid start to his campaign and the team now look ahead to Round Two at Chang International Circuit in Thailand.

Lez Pearson, the young rider’s crew chief has noted that breaking will be key around the Asian circuit, but is confident their brakes will provide the support they require. “You’ve got to do some pretty strong braking in Thailand, whereas Phillip Island is fast and flowing and probably one of the least strenuous as far as breaking is concerned. The main thing is getting the bike to stop well.”

“This bike is generally really good on the brakes,” He continues, “and it’s good on long, fast corners. Although Thailand has some heavy breaking and a couple of tight turns, there are some fast sections too.”
