Hayden: "At the moment it is hard to overtake anywhere"
American has a varied Saturday at MotorLand
Nicky Hayden (Red Bull Honda World Superbike Team) has a mixed day around the MotorLand Aragon circuit, as he automatically moves through to Superpole Two but struggles in Race One, as windy conditions plague the Spanish circuit.
The former MotoGP™ World Champion is continuing to work and progress on his new Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade SP2, he was locked in a battle with his team-mate and Eugene Laverty (Milwaukee Aprilia) in which he hoped to come out on top. Under the reshuffled grid format for 2017, Hayden will now be starting from 12th on the grid.
“We made a couple of big changes for Superpole and the bike felt better” Hayden explained, “We did a pretty decent lap to go to the top of Superpole 1 with a race tyre, and then in Superpole 2 I didn’t really improve on my lap time with the qualifying tyre. In the race I made a good start but I didn’t put myself in a good position, some lanes closed up and it wasn’t too exciting of a race, it was windy but it was for everyone. I was racing with Eugene and Stefan, it would have been nice to win that group as you would start from the second row, but me and Stefan went back and forth the last lap. I got in front I thought I had the chance to get Eugene and Stefan drafted me back on the back straightway. 27 seconds back is not really nice, but now we have time to see what we can come up with tomorrow.”
Hayden will be fighting once again from 12th position on the grid for the honours in Race Two around MotorLand Aragon, catch all the action live on the Video Pass.
