Italian to take on final European round with Red Bull Honda World Superbike Team

Following appearances in Germany and France, Davide Giugliano will make another appearance for the Red Bull Honda World Superbike Team as the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship heads into the final European Round of the season. The Italian will be joined once again by Takumi Takahashi, as he enters his second WorldSBK Round.

Italian Giugliano was able to secure two points scoring finishes last time out at Magny-Cours, and will be hoping to continue to develop the new Fireblade CBR1000RR SP2, as it reaches the end of its first full season in competition. Boasting a wealth of experience in the WorldSBK series, Giugliano has made 117 starts in the class but has a tough record around the Southern Spanish Circuit. Despite only scoring points in three out of six appearances at the Jerez circuit.

Keeping focused on the development of the Honda, Giugliano explains: “We get to Jerez after the positive weekend at Magny-Cours, where we worked hard and well to improve the package. I think we are heading in the right direction, so now I’m looking forward to Jerez, which is among my favourite tracks and one where I’ve always been competitive. I hope I will be able to put my speed to good use in order to keep improving the bike and have fun out there.”

Takumi Takahashi will join the Honda team in Spain, fresh off the back of a top ten and 15 finish at Autodromo Internacional do Algarve, which was his last appearance on the Fireblade. With experience around the famous Circuito de Jerez, this will play in the Japanese rider’s favour ahead of the weekend. Beginning to understand the nature of the Pirelli tyres and the WorldSBK Fireblade, Takahashi is looking forward to getting back on track.

“I have tested with MotoGP at Jerez before,” adds Takahashi. “So I already know the track, which is without a doubt a massive help heading into my second-ever WorldSBK round. Last time out at Portimão I got to know this version of the Fireblade and started to understand the behaviour of Pirelli tyres, so now I’m looking forward to getting back on track. The team works really hard and their support is great, so I’ll be giving my very best and hopefully we will get a good result together.”
