Garcia: "I wanted to go to Jerez in first to fight for the title"
Spanish rider puts in stunning performance with mind set on the championship
Heading into the penultimate round of the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship, there as everything to play for and Marc Garcia (Halcourier Racing) was able to deliver an all important strong performance, taking the victory around Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours.
Taking the championship fight into the final round of the season at Jerez, Garcia started the race from 11th on the grid and faced a tough fight with his Yamaha YZF-R3. However after developing a solid race pace throughout the weekend, he was able to swiftly work his way up through the pack and was soon locked in a seven rider battle for the lead.
Setting himself a goal of winning the race, and therefore heading to Jerez leading the world championship standings, Garcia was delighted to take the victory. Getting into the lead on lap 9 of 12, he was unable to break away from the pack but led over the line on each lap. Arriving to the chequered flag 0.273 ahead of the rest of the field, he then took hold of the championship lead and now looks ahead to the final round of the season.
“It was a really good race,” begins Garcia. “I pushed so hard on every lap, and I am really happy to win this race here. My plan was to take the win here and to go to Jerez first in the title to fight for the title, so I did it and I’m really happy with that.”
