Josh Brookes presents WorldSBK.com’s latest classic in the spotlight

There are new additions to the classics section of WorldSBK.com, so what better way to celebrate than shed a little light on some of the best with a #ThrowbackThursday? Here Australian Milwaukee BMW rider Josh Brookes introduces a definite classic from the Island - when1996 staged a Round of WorldSBK to remember.

With a front row headed by Texas Tornado Colin Edwards, Championship contender Troy Corser was joined by compatriot Anthony Gobert in the hunt for home glory as the two Aussies lined up alongside. It was Corser who took the early lead at home, sweeping around the outside and keeping the position through the Southern Loop before Edwards hit back. Carl Fogarty’s number 1 was a big mover off the line, as the ‘King’ moved up the order to slot into P4 behind Aaron Slight, mugging front row starter Gobert before the Australian started to work his way back to the front.

After an almighty battle between Slight and Gobert, the pair hauled race leader Colin Edwards back in before Slight went off track – leaving Corser as the man sure to take the Championship crown, and Gobert on the tail of the leading Yamaha of Edwards.

With the Race becoming a duel, Gobert took the lead to be shadowed by the American and the battle in front characterized the remaining laps of the Race, with Yamaha finally the one behind on the final lap, and looking for one last gap…
