American WorldSBK debutant hits the ground running in Donington

Cameron Beaubier is settling into the World Superbike paddock well, as the American gained entry straight into Tissot-Superpole 2 after his first Friday on the YZF R1 for Pata Yamaha. Riding as a replacement for injured Sylvain Guintoli, the American was P9 on his first day. Guintoli is at Donington with his team although as yet unable to ride, and the Frenchman is hoping to be back on the bike in Misano.

“I’m having a lot of fun and I need to thank Yamaha for giving me the opportunity,” said Beaubier after Day 1. “In the first practice a lot of things were thrown at me and I had to get used to the bike and the tyres. But everything’s gone good and the team have welcomed me with open arms.

“I know the track from the last time I was here in 2009 on a 125, but I had to relearn the track on the big bike. Everything is coming at you so much faster! But it’s great to be here and race against these guys. There is a lot of depth on the WorldSBK grid and to be here racing against a lot of guys I´ve looked up to at world level is really great.”

After another 15 minute session in the morning, Beaubier will head into his first Tissot-Superpole to try and keep up the Pata Yamaha squad’s great qualifying record so far in 2016.
