The Italian clinches his first podium in STK1000

Pata Yamaha Official Stock Team rider Riccardo Russo made an impressive comeback to racing at the Lausitzring, by confidently navigating his way to his first podium, despite sitting out of the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup since Assen, due to injuries.

The changeable weather conditions and challenge of the new circuit didn’t stop the young Italian as he set about to advance from eighth place on the grid. He started strong and was up to third by the end of the opening lap, before a brief relegation to fifth reignited his fire to fight back.

He quickly fought back for the podium position and kept pushing till the end to ensure a safety net of over ten seconds to fourth placed Jeremy Guarnoni. Russo crossed the line 13 seconds clear of the Pedercini Racing rider, adding 16 points to his championship total to solidify his top ten position standing in the Cup, after Round 6 at the Pirelli German Round.

"I am really happy to return to the STK1000 Cup on the podium,” said The Italian after Sunday at the Lausitzring. “It was a very good race, but for me it was not perfect and I always look for more. It is really good that I can share this result with the team as we have all worked very hard this weekend with the tricky conditions and the new layout. I am very pleased because I had no experience of this circuit before and I’ve never tested here, so to get the podium in my first race since Assen, I am happy. I want to get better for the next race and improve on my position again so I am really looking forward to Magny-Cours."

Riccardo Russo will return to Italy ahead of the next Round at the Circuit De Nevers Magny-Cours, to prepare for round seven at the end of September, where he hopes to continue his podium finishing form.
