Mahias to Replace Barrier in Assen

French rider in at Pedercini for recovering compatriot Sylvain Barrier

After crashing and breaking some bones in his hand at MotorLand Aragón on Lap 3, it was announced recently that permanent Pedercini rider Sylvain Barrier is hoping to be back on track at Imola but will be forced to miss the Dutch Round of WorldSBK. His substitute will be experienced French veteran Lucas Mahias.

As well as a good number of impressive appearances in Moto2 and the World Endurance Championship, Mahias is also well known for having won all 12 races out of 12 in the 2014 French Supersport Championship, taking the crown in stunning style.

The Frenchman has also had a number of wildcard entries, numbering 3 at Magny Cours and 4 at Losail Internation Circuit in Qatar, and has the perfect record for Pedercini to have offered him the opportunity to temporarily step in for Barrier.

WorldSSP podium finisher Mahias will turn 27 the day before getting out on track on the Kawasaki ZX 10-R at the TT Circuit Assen with Pedercini on the 15th of April; his next chance to show off his race craft.

“It’s an amazing opportunity to race in Holland with Pedercini,” said Mahias. “For me WorldSBK is a new experience and I’ll give it my best shot. I also want to wish Sylvain a speedy recovery. I consider this a real substitution and now I’m just going to focus 100% on this race.”

The WorldSBK paddock heads to the Netherlands next in mid-April, with the scene set for another great showdown at the legendary venue of Assen.
