2014 World Champion to miss Donington; aiming for Misano return

On Thursday, it was confirmed that Sylvain Guintoli would not be taking part in next weekend’s seventh round of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship at Donington Park in England.

The Frenchman – who, following his Imola crash, has had screws inserted into his left ankle – is striving to be back on the grid for the following fixture at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli on the weekend of 17-19 June.

The Thursday communiqué from Yamaha Racing reads as follows:
‘Following his qualifying accident at Imola at the end of April and the resulting recent surgery to his left ankle, Sylvain Guintoli will not be able to participate in the upcoming MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship race at Donington Park scheduled for the 27-29th May.

It is with regret that the Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team can confirm Guintoli's recovery has required a longer period of rehabilitation than was first diagnosed, but he is currently recuperating well at home in a bid to return to the team and his YZF-R1 for the eighth round of competition, at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, on Friday 17th June.

The Frenchman intends to support his Pata Yamaha team at Donington Park for their home round next week. Further to Guintoli's teammate Alex Lowes suffering a broken collarbone in Sepang's Sunday race, details regarding the team's Donington rider line-up will be announced in due course.’

Guintoli on Imola crash and hope to return at Misano:
“Unfortunately the recovery is going to take me a little longer than I had originally hoped, but the aim is to be fit in time for Misano. It was such a massive crash that the landing took more out of me than first realised but it's all on the mend now! They have inserted some screws into my ankle - which is a shame because I have been metal free for quite a while (!) - but the surgery was completely successful and it's just about recovery time and working to get myself back to 100% fitness again.”
