Giugliano on Imola: Race 2 Reflections

Ducati rider just off the podium in second race in Imola

The Aruba.it Racing - Ducati enjoyed an unforgettable weekend in Imola, with a double win from Chaz Davies and two solid top 5 finishes for teammate Davide Giugliano. The Italian Ducati rider showed a strong progression, with pace worthy of the podium after some difficulties in the early laps that prevented him from fighting with the KRT pairing of Jonathan Rea and Tom Sykes.

“Today we made another step forward with the setup and I probably could have fought for the podium as my pace was similar to Sykes’, but I struggled early on to warm up the rear tyre,” explained Giugliano, who took P5 on Saturday in Race 1 behind Althea BMW rider Jordi Torres, and then went one better the day after to come home behind Kawasaki’s third placed rider Tom Sykes. “Compared with the last couple of races, this round has definitely been positive, with two top-five finishes that give me a confidence boost to get back on the right track.”

Giugliano started from P2 on the grid in a 1-2 qualifying performance for Ducati at home, and started from pole last year on his return from a sidelining injury sustained in pre-season.

“I want to give my special thanks to the many Ducati fans who showed an incredible warmth despite our recent struggles,” added Giugliano. “Sepang will be another tough battle, both because of the climate and the layout, but we’re not holding back.”

WorldSBK is now en route to Malaysia for Round 6, where the engines will fire up once again on the 13th of May.
