Swelling of tendon cured for Dutch rider.

Honda World Superbike Team rider Michael van der Mark has undergone minor surgery on Tuesday in order to rectify the tenosynovitis in his right wrist. The Dutch rider missed the last two days of the recent Jerez test as the tendon swelled up.

As announced on the Honda Pro Racing Facebook page, the operation was carried out at the ZNA Stuivenberg hospital in Antwerp, Belgium. The surgery was performed by Dr. Geert Peersman.

“It was a quick, small operation and it was the right thing to do,” van der Mark comments. “The doctor found some more small inflammations close to the one that gave me the difficulties; he said, if I had just let it heal by resting, it would have returned at some stage.

“I lack a bit of strength in my arm and hand at the moment, but in few weeks everything should be back to normal. Actually, it already feels quite good again and I expect no issues for the next test.”

Van der Mark’s recovery will now continue at home, ahead of the Christmas holiday period.
