Krummenacher a fan of new WSS rules

Swiss debutant expects World Supersport bikes to become more akin to Moto2 machines.

One of the new names on the 2016 grid for the FIM Supersport World Championship will be Randy Krummenacher.

The 24-year-old from Zurich looks forward to the new challenge for a variety of reasons, as he explains to WorldSBK.com, but is particularly enthusiastic about the modified regulations which are expected to intensify battles up and down the grid.

Randy, next year you will be riding in World Supersport with Kawasaki Puccetti Racing. What was the thinking behind this decision and what do you expect?
I made this decision because it is a really, really good package, so I am very happy. Hopefully I will be able to get the results I want in order to be at the top. It’s a good team and a very good bike, so I am very happy and confident for next year.

At the end of this month you will have your first test with this team and with the new bike. What do you expect and how are you planning to familiarise yourself with the new bike?
In the first test at Jerez, I don’t expect a lot. I will just do as many laps as possible and try to get the feeling for the bike, the tyres and the brakes. All will be completely different, so to do as many laps as possible will be the first goal, and of course to make some improvements in terms of feeling and try to be effective in terms of lap times.

Next season, World Supersport will feature some changes, for example to reduce the complexity of the current electronics. What do you make of these changes?
This is really good for me because in Moto2 we have no electronic help, so this suits me really well. I’m not used to traction control and engine braking control, so for me there won’t be much of a change in terms of riding style. It’s good for me!

Your team-mate will be Kenan Sofuoglu, four-time World Supersport Champion. What will it be like to work with him?
I don’t know [laughs]! For sure, it will be a surprise because he is a very experienced rider. I have a lot of respect for him. It will be so nice to have him as team-mate because, for sure, I can learn a lot from him.

Randy Krummenacher is no stranger to international road racing, having featured in the 125cc and Moto2 classes of Grand Prix racing between 2006 and 2015.

In 2007, he finished on the podium in the 125 class at the Catalan GP, missing out on victory by one tenth of a second and having raced against current Grand Prix stars such as Bradley Smith, Pol Espargaro, Stefan Bradl and Tito Rabat.

In 2011, Krummenacher shared the Moto2 grid with Kenan Sofuoglu, now four-time World Supersport Champion who becomes his Kawasaki Puccetti Racing team-mate.
